Choosing a Program

When choosing your placement there are some things you need to think about. What sort of work do you want to do? What academic requirements are you trying to fulfill? What kind of time commitment can you make? How much language training do you need prior to beginning your internship? Do you want to live in our Orientation Center, in your own apartment or in a homestay during your language training and placement?

The best place to start is by browsing our placements to get an idea of the placement options that may be available to you. This will help you get an idea of the type of placements that are possible, and help you to choose one that matches your academic requirements.

When considering an internship program, there are some requirements to keep in mind. As a general rule, most internships in Latin America require a minimum level of conversational Spanish. During your orientation week you will receive one week of language training which is included in your registration fee. Many interns require an additional amount of language training in country prior to beginning their internship. If you are a basic Spanish speaker then you will be required to take additional language training in country until you are at the required level for your placement. The average time for a basic speaker to become conversational is three months. Our staff will help you arrange this additional language training prior to your departure. If you are already conversant in the language then you will be required to do an oral exam after you have been registered on the program.
